Hey guys, so I decided it was time to do another blog, and what better than to do a blog on the famous money crystal Citrine! In this blog I am going to take the time to answer a few common questions I get asked about it, so that hopefully I can put your mind to rest.
So, let’s start with the basic question: What is Citrine and Where is it found?
For those of you who don’t know, Citrine is a transparent, yellowish variety of Quartz. It may range from a pale yellow to an almost brown colour with more golden and honey tones in between. The name originated from the French word citron which means lemon. Ironically though natural Citrine is not found in France at all, it is instead found in the Ural Mountains of Russia and in Madagascar. Heat treated Citrine commonly comes from Brazil.
What is Citrine crystal good for?
Citrine is known to be a happy stone, because of its ability to remove negativity it is said to relieve depression, self-doubt, anger, and mood swings. It helps to boost your self-esteem and encourage a positive flow of energy into your life. Citrine enhances mental clarity, confidence and will power which makes it a great stone for attracting wealth and prosperity.
Where should Citrine be placed?
There is a couple of places you can keep Citrine in your home. The commonly known place you can keep your Citrine is in the far-left corner of the main entrance door of your home. Now this may not necessarily mean your front door this may be another door that you use more often, it is just your main entrance way. This comes from Feng Shui and is known as the wealth corner of the home.
Another area of your home that you can keep your Citrine crystal is if you have a safe, or a place where you store your money in your home you can place your Citrine crystal with it to safeguard it and keep its energetic qualities pure keeping money flowing into your home. The same aspect applies to keeping it in your purse, so it encourages the flow of money to keep coming.
Can you wear Citrine everyday?
Absolutely! When you are wanting to achieve something in life you set your mind to it and work hard to get it, right? Well the same aspects apply to your Citrine crystal. It is wanting to work with you and help you achieve your goals, and in order to work with you it needs to be with you. So if you are wanting to make the most out of your crystal you should absolutely wear it for as long as you feel you are needing it. Also if you wear this stone with another one like Rose Quartz, it will help amplify the healing energies of that stone too!
One thing to be aware of with Citrine though is it is sensitive to heat. Heat can change the colour of it, so keeping this in mind you should be careful with wearing your Citrine jewellery in the shower. The rest of the time is fine to keep on especially when sleeping as crystals help keep nightmares away and promote peaceful sleep.
How do you cleanse and activate Citrine?
Citrine is said to be a natural self-cleansing stone, just like Selenite, Kyanite etc.. But you should also judge the stone by its feel. If you feel the energy of your Citrine seems duller than it use to be, then you should absolutely cleanse it.
To cleanse and charge I always recommend putting it out in the full moon. The power of the moon is always the best way to cleanse and charge most of your crystals. But if its needing to be done and you don’t have the full moon, you can always take it down to the beach and run the sea water over it or bury it overnight into the earth. Mother nature created our beautiful stones, and its powerful energy can restore the crystals back to the way they should be without all the energy we put into them. Sage is also a great way to cleanse your crystals.
The one thing to avoid doing with your Citrine crystal is charging it in the sun, as the heat of the sun will change the colouring of your stone.
Now for the tricky question: How can you tell if Citrine is real?
Heat treated Citrine is huge on today’s market and trying to get natural Citrine is exceedingly difficult, and pricey. A couple of dead giveaways is natural Citrine does not grow in clusters or caves like Amethyst does, they grow in point structures the same as clear quartz. Also, when you see the raw points that are white at the bottom and a dark orange at the top, this is not natural Citrine they are heart treated Amethyst.
Three good things to look at is clarity, colour, and price. if you can’t see through it and it’s a really dark burnt orangey colour it is most likely heat-treated amethyst. Also, if it seems too cheap to be real it most likely isn’t. Natural Citrine is not a cheap stone to get so if you want it you are going to have to pay for it, due to the rarity of it.
I hope I have managed to answer all of your questions, if there is anything else your wanting to know let me know, or if there is another crystal your wanting me to do flick us a message!
